High-Speed Scarification is an excellent choice for new bridges requiring a bonded protective concrete overlay or bridges in good condition with minimal or no delamination. This process removes ¼” (6 mm) to ½” (12 mm) of the surface to provide an excellent bonding surface free from surface damage such as microcracks from rotomilling. High-Speed Scarification will also remove surface laitance leaving a surface profile of ¼” to ½”. The method is 2 to 3 times faster than normal scarification equipment and substantially less expensive. A vacuum recover system is attached to the blast head to recover the wastewater and debris during the scarification. Surfaces that have been previously rotomilled can be scarified to remove the microcracks (bruising) using our High-Speed Scarification process. It is an excellent option for bridge decks in good condition but need to add cover or remove rutting.
High-Speed Scarification uses multiple waterjets operating at 35,000 psi mounted in a rotating head. The multiple jets quickly remove microcracks and surface laitance to leave a rough, irregular surface that will form an excellent bond with the overlay or repair material.
Bond test performed on the prepared surface showed failure in the substrate verifying that all microcracks had been removed and the surface was ready for a bonded overlay.
