The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet issued a contract to repair this large bridge spanning the Ohio River connecting Kentucky to Indiana. The JFK Memorial Bridge (I-65 over Ohio River) required extensive repairs including expansion joint replacement, stringer bearing replacement, and a complete bridge deck overlay. We were selected for Rampart’s ability to provide multiple equipment units and technicians set up apart from the competition. We supplied enough equipment and manpower to provide 6,600 SY of concrete remove per 24 hour period.

Rampart removed more than 33,000 SY of concrete bridge to provide a rough and bondable surface profile (approximately 1/2″ removal), along with vacuum water control and debris cleanup. In addition, Rampart utilized our custom-designed Automatic Vacuum Filtration System (AVS) to treat all the wastewater lowering the total suspended solids and the pH.

This project was completed on time allowing owner to re-open the roadway as required with zero OSHA recordable incidents. For our work on this project, Rampart was awarded the 2013 Excellence in Construction Award and the Presidential Award by the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC).
