Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway International Airports are two of the country’s largest, busiest airports. O’Hare has 7 active runways and Midway has 5 active runways. Together, these two airports have more than 1,000,000 arrivals and departures every year. Every landing and take-off leaves airplane tire rubber on the runways. As this rubber builds up, the airplanes loose friction with the runway and can cause dangerous skidding situations.
We were chosen for this project because Rampart Hydro Services provides rubber removal services to O’Hare and Midway. Periodically, removing the rubber buildup ensures that the runways are safe for landings and takeoffs.
Over the course of the five year contract, Rampart Hydro Services has/will remove approximately 72,000,000 SF of rubber deposits.
Rampart has successfully removed rubber deposits utilizing an environmentally-friendly water-only solution, without the use of harmful chemicals that could damage the surface of the runways or cause contaminated runoff into areas around the runways.
