WA DOT | Structure: Lewis & Clark Bridge Deck OverlayQuantity & Depth of Removal: 54,000 sf (5,020 sm) @ .25-inches (6 mm) Owner: Washington DOTLocation: Longview, WAContractor: Max J. Kuney Co. Spokane, WA The Lewis & Clark Bridge is over the Columbia River. Complete containment of the water and debris from the hydrodemolition process was an environmental requirement. In addition to scarifying .25-inch of concrete, many areas on the bridge had .25 to 1-inch of asphalt on the surface, which was removed during the hydrodemolition scarification in one step. As a solution for containment and cleanup, Rampart vacuumed the water and debris continuously during the hydrodemolition process. The water was pumped from the vacuum truck into a water treatment system. Debris was removed from the bridge in the vacuum truck and placed in landfill. Due to the size of the project, scarification was performed each night and the bridge open to traffic each day. Immediately preceding the overlay, Rampart re-cleaned the bridge deck using the under carriage vacuum decks and the 10,000 psi integral water blaster. |
