In areas where full depth was required the slabs were first hydrodemolished 4-inches from the underside. The floors were then shored and the top 4-inches was removed. Any of the 12-inch slab that remained following top and bottom hydrodemolition was removed chipping hammers. The Center remained open and fully operational during this three-year construction project. During the hydrodemolition process noise and vibration are not transmitted through the structure allowing the normal operations to continue during the work. Also, because all the debris is wet there is very little dust associated with the construction, which furthered allowed patrons and employees to use the garage with the normal dust and inconvenience created during a concrete restoration project.  |
