Structure: Bridge DeckQuantity & Depth of Removal: 10,400 psi concrete 7,000 sf (650 sm) @ 3.5-inches (90 mm)2,400 sf (225 sm) @ 5.5-inches (140 mm)Location: Bascule Bridge, Stone Harbor, NJOwner: New Jersey Department of Transportation Contractor: Agate Construction Company, Inc.10,400-psi Concrete: No Problem for Rampart. Compressive strengths taken prior to the start of work showed that the average compressive strength of the bridge deck was 10,400-psi. To tackle the strength of this bridge, Rampart sent a triple pump unit. Capable of producing 36,000 psi at 48 gpm, the triple provided sufficient power to demolish the concrete. To prevent water and debris from running into the pristine waters of Stone harbor, NJ, Rampart connected a high-volume vacuum truck directly to the hydrodemolition tractor. Not only did the vacuum connection keep debris and water from the ocean, but it also made clean up a cinch for the contractor.
