Structure: Bridge DeckQuantity & Depth of Removal: 11,700 square yards (9,800 sm) @ 2.5” (63 mm)Owner: Michigan Dept. of TransportationLocation: I-75 & Davison Freeway, Detroit, MI Contractor: Posen Construction, Utica, MIRampart provided hydrodemolition and vacuum clean up services for this MI DOT project that included multiple bridges, on and off ramps, and main line bridges. Rotomilling was done prior to the hydrodemolition process, just deep enough to expose the top bar of reinforcing. Approximately 2.5” of hydrodemolition was done after the rotomilling to get below the top mat of reinforcing steel.
When exposing the reinforcing steel with hydrodemolition, the steel is left intact and sandblasting is eliminated because the hydro-process cleans the steel as it removes the concrete.
On this project our Trac Vac was used to “ride” on top of the reinforcing steel and vacuum up the excess debris and water. The Trac Vac is light weight and easily tracks over the unsupported rebar without bending or damaging it.
