Jersey City Viaduct | Structure: Bridge SubstructureRemoval: 2,900 cubic yards @ 3-12 inches deep 2,200 cubic meters @ 76-305 mm deepOwner: New Jersey Dept. of TransportationLocation: Jersey City, NJContractor: Rosanglela Contracting Co., Cliffwood, NJ Rampart removed approximately 2,200 cubic meters of concrete encasement from the substructure of the Jersey City Viaduct leading to the Holland Tunnel. Much of the encasement was shotcrete with a compressive strength between 7,000 and 9,000 psi. Removal ranged from 6 feet below grade to 56 feet above grade. Rampart modified 4 JLG man lifts and mounted the hydrodemolition equipment on the end of their booms. All functions including the movement of the machine was controlled by the operator in a second man lift.
