Road construction ahead Work may hamper travelers' vacation plans

With 36,000 pounds of pressure at his control, Jose Roberto Sandoval uses water to eat away the top inch and a half of concrete on the westbound lane of the north Rigby overpass as crews begin a resurfacing project there. Hydroblasting has only been used once in eastern Idaho, but Rampart Hydroblasting, a company out of Pennsylvania, will be working throughout the summer for the Idaho Transportation Department on several resurfacing projects in the Rigby and Ririe areas. |
Travel season is here, and for motorists, that means road construction. Motorists traveling in eastern Idaho and northwest Wyoming should look out for several projects. Some could delay travel times or cause other problems for drivers. Here are a few of the road construction projects in the area. * U.S. Highway 20 Ashton bridge Motorists can expect delays north of Ashton on U.S. Highway 20 while crews build a bridge over the Henry's Fork. Flaggers will periodically stop traffic for as much as 15 minutes during the next two weeks while they move in concrete equipment. * North Rigby interchange overpass Repairs to the north Rigby overpass begin Wednesday. Traffic will be limited to one lane throughout the summerlong project. * U.S. Highway 93, Park Avenue to Artemesia Avenue, Mackay Paving on U.S. Highway 93 between Park and Artemesia avenues in Mackay will be completed this week. Seal coating will begin Wednesday. * Challis Main Street The old pavement along Main Street in Challis is being removed. Workers will lay new pavement, pour new curbs, gutters and sidewalks, and install new streetlights as part of a four-month project. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times, but no on-street parking will be allowed during construction. Here is one of the larger projects to look out for in northeastern Wyoming. * Snake River Canyon, U.S. highways 26 and 89, near the Lunch Counter River Rapid Workers are building a support bridge in the Lunch Counter Rapids area. Motorists can expect 20-minute delays between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Vehicles wider than 12 feet will not be able to drive through the construction zone.
